Netbooks
The rise to popularity of the Netbook Computer in 2008 surprised many. After all, it wasn't the first time that we'd seen tiny laptops. Now firmly established, most of the major manufacturers have launched their own netbook offerings and sales are expected to increase throughout 2009 as this new mini-laptop technology begins to mature.
In a sense Netbooks were the next step in the low cost evolution of the subnotebook or ultraportable. The pioneer in this field was the ASUS Eee which launched in 2007. Early Netbook incarnations tended to run on the Linux operating system and Open Office, however, the new generation of netbooks offer the choice of Windows or Linux.
Netbooks are very light, have great battery life, boot quickly and cope with pretty much everything except processor intensive graphics packages.
