Acer Aspire One (Linux)

The Acer Aspire One (Linux) is designed to sit at the budget end of the market.  Be careful not to confuse it with the Acer Aspire One which is its more heavily specced elder and carries a 50% higher price tag.

This entry level machine is equipped with a 1.6ghz Intel Atom processor, an 8gb flash drive and 512mb of RAM.  It weighs just 1.1kg  and employs an 8.9 inch TFT screen with a resolution of 1024x600 which is far more acceptable than the similarly priced lower resolution Asus Eee PC 701 for example.

Acer Aspire One (Linux) Positives

  • Boot time of less than 30 seconds puts Windows specced machines to shame.
  • Excellent usability.

Acer Aspire One (Linux) Negatives

  • The screen is a little disapointing not being as sharp or bright as some of its competitors especially, as it is the same model.
  • Battery life is just ok at 144 mins.

Acer Aspire One (Linux) Conclusion

A great budget machine challenged only by the Asus Eee PC 701 4G.  It's light, has a good keyboard and excellent usability.  We'd award it 70%.
